De-cluttering Chaos in your Home

Are there times when you think your home is in total chaos?  The clutter in your home did not just materialize from nowhere.  It evolved right in front of your eyes but you may not be paying attention.  Clearing things up will take several days so start boxing up items:  “give away box”, “throw away box” and “put away box”.

Organizing is more than just cleaning.  It is systematic, properly planned and executed task.  De-clutter your home one room at a time.  Likewise, follow a routine – start from the entrance then move clockwise and don’t let anything pass you by.

One dilemma when de-cluttering stuff is determining what to throw and what to keep.  Decide whether you’re keeping items for their value – sentimental or otherwise.  Keeping items simply because of guilt is definitely not a good reason.  Another practical consideration is the number of times you’ve used it in the past.  If you’re not using it, then it may not be that important.  The items that you are wiling to part with can be donated.  You can even earn a buck or two if you sell them online or in a garage sale.  That’s not bad for something about to be thrown away.

It is the nature of clutter to find things that are out of place.  Collect them in a box and when it is full immediately put them back where they should be long.  Fight the temptation of stowing the “put away” box in your basement.

When de-cluttering, leave no place unturned.  This is the best time to reorganize shelves, drawers, desks and even furniture.  Sort through your bills, receipts, documents, files and determine which ones you’ll throw.  You can get rid of files older than a year or simply designate a place where you can place old but important items.

At first, the task of cleaning your home can be exciting, then the fun starts to dry up as soon as you find that there is so much to do.  But remember, this is not as daunting as it may appear.  Your diligence and patience are required on a day to day basis.  Moreover, de-cluttering is all about cleaning your space using an organized system.  When you’ve finished creating order from chaos, you can go back and put some aesthetic touch to your work.  A little tweaking of items can add a personal touch to your space.
